Private Shepherd - death of child 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 29/12/1916 reports:

"The danger of Flannelette.
Coroner's advice to a Mother at Durham.
Coroner Graham held an inquest at Durham Infirmary, yesterday, on the body of Rowland Shepherd, aged 3, son of Private Shepherd, of Spennymoor. The child was accidentally burned in the house, and died from shock at the Durham Infirmary on Christmas night. The mother stated that the child was wearing flannelette underclothing, and the Coroner commented on the dangers of such inflammable material, and advised the mother to go home and tear up all the flannelette in the house. A verdict was returned that death was due to shock following burns.
