"Awards to V.A.D. Workers.
Shildon well represented on the list.
Shildon V.A.D. workers were well represented in the list of awards presented by Viscountess Boyne, at Darlington, on Thursday last. The Shildon V.A.D. (No.96) received 14 gold medals (the county awards) and the list of recipients was as follows:

All the above mentioned have received Certificate of Thanks from the Voluntary Aid Organisation for valuable services rendered during the war 1914-1919.
The Shildon Lodge Nursing Division supplied the full complement of the V.A.D. staff at Windlestone for three years seven months.
One member was mentioned in despatches, and one gained the 1915 Star (France); two members worked in France and 14 in the military hospitals in England, some of whom are not yet demobilised. The War Service medal is for voluntary workers only who have been granted two stripes."
