In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of M/22301 Senior Reserve Attendant George Carr, serving on H.M.S. Pembroke with the Royal Naval Auxiliary Sick Berth Reserve, who died 04/11/1918.

The son of George and Sarah E. Carr, of 7, Eleanor Street, Cullercoats, Northumberland.

He was the son of George and Sarah E. Carr of 7 Eleanor Street, Cullercoats, Northumberland. A Grocer, he was Initiated into 2762 Lindisfarne Lodge, Masonic Hall Norfolk Street North Shields on the 25th May 1916 and there is no record of any further Advancement. He died on the 4th November 1918 aged 36 and is buried in Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery, England, Grave Reference A.C.1.

H.M.S. Pembroke was a shore based establishment at Chatham. Built on the site of Chatham convict prison in 1897, it provided accommodation and training facilities for men of the Reserve Fleet while waiting to be appointed to ships. It was named after a hulk which was formerly housed on the site.

His brothers Arthur and Ernest James also died in WW1.
