The son of George and Sarah Carr, of 2, Hatherton Avenue, Cullercoats and the husband of Osella Carr (nee Dawson), of South Shields. He was a native of Cullercoats.

In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:
