On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Second Engineer Arthur Morrell, serving on S.S. Stanhope with the Mercantile Marine who died 17/06/1917.

The son of James and Sarah Morrell and the husband of Amy Morrell (nee Hodgson), of 99, Cornwall Street, West Hartlepool. He was born at Scarborough.

The SS Stanhope, ship number 109238, was sunk by a German U Boat, UB 31, commanded by Oberleutnant zur See Thomas Bieber, 7 miles SWxW of Start Point, carrying a cargo of rails from Barrow to Dunkerque.
