On the Arras Memorial, France is the name of 14977 Private Fenwick Hewitson, M.M. serving with the 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, who died 12/05/1917.

He was the son of Mathew and Catherine Hewitson, of Main Street, Kelloe, Co. Durham.

In Kelloe (St. Helen) Churchyard Extension is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Catherine
dearly loved wife of
Matthews Hewitson
of Kelloe,
who died 24th April 1933
aged 63 years.

Also of the above
Matthew Hewitson
who died 24th August 1952
aged 89 years.

Also of their son
Pte. Fenwick Hewitson M.M.
fell in action in France
12th May 1917
aged 23 years

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 18/18/1916 reports:
Military Medal for Kelloe man.
Pte. Fenwick Hewison, (sic) Yorks Regiment, of Green Street, Kelloe, who is at present in a hospital at Birkenhead, recovering from wounds, has been awarded the Military Medal for carrying a wounded soldier out of danger during heavy Maxim and rifle fire.
