On Portsmouth Naval Memorial, is the name of P/SSX 22549 Able Seaman William Weddle serving on H.M.S. Hood with the Royal Navy who died 24/05/1941.

The son of George and Mary Jane Weddle, of Billingham, Co. Durham.

In St. Cuthbert’s Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:-

In
loving memory
of
Cpl. George Weddle RAF
died on active service
May 10th 1941

Also his brother
William Weddle AB
Lost at sea on H.M.S. Hood
May 24th 1941

Also George
father of the above
Passed away December 10th 1942
Aged 54 years.

His brother George also died in WW2.

William Weddle is remembered at Billingham on B139.05 and B139.09 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
