On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 177201 Able Seaman Thomas Joseph Cuthbert Kavanagh, serving on (RFR/CH/B/1521).H.M.S. Aboukir  with the Royal Navy who died 22/09/1914.

The son of Mary J. Kavanagh, of 125, Chirton West View, North Shields, Northumberland, and the late Mr. Kavanagh.

Thomas Joseph Cuthbert Kavanagh lost his life onboard HMS Aboukir, ship number 108151, torpedoed by U-9 commanded by Kapitanleutnant Otto Weddigen on the 22nd September 1914.

Thomas Joseph Cuthbert Kavanagh is remembered at Newcastle on NUT174 and NUT181, at Tynemouth in T36.14 page 7 where his name is given as “Cavanagh” and  in our List of Ships’ Crews.
