On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of K/42304 Stoker 1st Class Robert Phillip Wood, serving on H.M.S. Louvain with the Royal Navy who died 20/01/1918.

He was the son of John McKay Wood and Eleanor Wood, of 1, Clayton Road, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. He was a native of Felton.

In Felton Cemetery is a family headstone for Wood which reads:

In Memory of
John Mackay Wood
died Feb. 11th 1913 aged 71 years.

Robert Phillip Wood,
drowned at sea Jan. 20th 1918
aged 25 years

Annie Wood
died Aug. 8th 1925 aged 40 years.

Eleanor,
wife of John Mackay Wood,
died Aug. 12th 1939 aged 78 years.

H.M.S. Louvain was an armed boarding steamer of 1830 gross tonnage which was sunk by submarine in the Mediterranean on 20/1/1918 with the loss of 244 lives.
