FATHER STILL HOPES
Whitburn Youth a Member of Castlemoor Crew
Another member of the crew of the Newcastle steamer Castlemoor, which is overdue and presumed lost, is 19-yearoid Whitburn youth, Robert Morrison Smith, of 13 Augusta Terrace. It was his first voyage on the ship after serving as an apprentice on the Eastmoor for three years. His father, also a seafarer, told Sunderland Echo representative to-day: “From my experience I think there is every possibility that the crew has been picked up by another steamer. If that is so it may be weeks or even months before they arrive home.”
Robert Morrison Smith is remembered at Sunderland in S140.159, at Whitburn on W100.01 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
