On the Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Third Engineer Matthew Golightly, serving on S.S. Heatherside (Newcastle) with the Mercantile Marine who died 24/08/1917.

The son of Matthew and Annie Golightly, of 66, Wingrove Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. He was born at Newcastle upon Tyne.

In Newcastle Cemetery, Fenham, is a family headstone which reads:

Pray for the
repose of the
souls of
Matthew Golightly
died 4. Sept. 1930
aged 67 years

and of his sons
Matthew
aged 26 years
Joseph Henry
aged 22 years
George Frederick
aged 19 years
killed in action
Great War 1914-18

and his wife
Annie Golightly
died 27 Jan. 1940
aged 70 years

Also Annie Lilian
dear daughter
and sister of the above
died 2nd Jan 1994
aged 101 years.
