Henderson lived at 21 Melton Terrace, New Hartley. He was born in Blyth and enlisted at New Hartley. He served with the 6th/7th Battalion and was formerly (4851, Private) Army Cyclist Corps.

His brothers Fenwick and William also died in WW1.
