On Lee-on-Solent Memorial is the name of FAA/FX 77482 Petty Officer Airman George Archbold Stanton Stephenson, serving on H.M.S. Daedalus with the Royal Navy who died 04/09/1944.

He was the son of W.E.B. and Martha Stephenson, of Hirst, Ashington

P/O Airman George Archbold Stanton Stephenson was killed when Grumman Avenger II JZ490 of 855 Squadron failed to return to Thorney Island after attacking three German destroyers while on patrol between Gravelines and Ijmuiden in the English Channel on September 4th 1944. All three crews members were reported missing, and are commemorated on the Lee-on-Solent Memorial.
