Memorial Description:

Book of Remembrance, quarto size, bound in black leather with a tooled gold cross on the front cover, and gold edges to the leaves.

It is on display in a wood case.

The front pages are illuminated, and the lists inside are handwritten in black ink.

78 names, regiments and dates of death.

Notes:

1. Apart from the title page, this Book is a complete duplicate of the Book kept in St. Andrew’s Church, Seaton Hirst (H62.02), except for the death date of Sidney Watson which in this Book is correctly 5th November 1940, whilst in St. Andrew’s copy the year is 1944.

2. The book’s dedication says “St. John the Baptist” but the church is dedicated to St. John the Evangelist. The Diocesan website says simply “St. John”.

3. One entry is missing the date of death. John Stark serving with the 7th Cameronians and died 9th March 1945. One entry is missing the sphere of Service. George A. Stanton Stephenson served with the Royal Navy.
