On the Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of C/TD/X 2012 Ordinary Signalman Frederick Hodgson Piper, serving on H.M.S. Hood with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 24/05/1941.

The son of Samuel Richard and Harriet Piper and the husband of May Piper, of Blackhill (Blackhall) Rocks, Co. Durham.

In Newcastle upon Tyne (West Road) Cemetery is a headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
my dear wife Maud E. Bartram
died 26th Feb. 1945 aged 25 years.

Also Samuel R. Piper
died 4th Sept. 1953 aged 66 years.

also his son Fred. H. Piper
died 25th May 1941 in H.M.S. Hood
aged 24 years.

also Harriet Plows
died 29th Aug. 1966 aged 70 years.

Fred was born on the 7th October 1915 in Whorlton, Northumberland the son of Samuel and Harriet Piper.
