On the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium  is the name of 205130 Private Edwin Ievers, serving with the 1/7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 26/10/1917.

The son of E and A Ievers, of Ballyanne, New Ross, Co Wexford and the husband of Gertrude Ievers, of 58, Ridley Street Southwick, Sunderland.

In Boldon Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Remembrance
Edwin Ievers
dearly loved husband of
Gertrude Ievers
killed at Ypres Oct. 26th 1917, aged 32 years.

Also Robert Edwin (Teddy)
their dear youngest son
died June 3rd 1959, aged 42 years.
Loved and remembered,

Also Gertrude Mary Green
Died 7th Oct. 1990, aged 79 years.

Edwin was a rolleyman for the North Eastern Railway. He joined the N.E.R. in June 1914.

His pension cards give the names oh his children Gertrude Mary born February 10th 1911, John Valentine November 4th 1913 and Robert Edwin born August 18th 1917

John Ievers, his grandson, has submitted the following:
I knew that he lived on Ridley Street, and left behind widow and three children. My father was born on Ridley Street in 1913.

Edwin’s brother Robert was also killed in 1917, serving with the D.L.I.

Last year I went to Arras, France, to see Robert’s grave, and then to Ypres and the Tyne Cot Memorial. Edwin did not have a grave just a name on the huge wall.

I did know he worked for NER, as did his brother, and both names are on a big memorial in York, near the Railway Station
