This tablet
was erected by the members and friends of the
Southwick Congregational Church
in honour of the lads who served in the
Great European War
and to perpetuate the memory of the following
who made the great sacrifice

This tablet was unveiled by
J.C. Scott, Esq., Oct. 12th 1919.

Plaque 27 inches high x 18 inches wide (69cms x 46cms), of elaborate shape.

It sits on an oak pattress which echoes the shape.

There is a single line border round the edge.

At centre top is a laurel wreath with a ribbon on either side on which are the dates “1914” & “1919”.

The words “In memoriam” are above the wreath.

The names are listed in a single column.

The lettering is in black sans serif upper and lower case with some red.

At the foot of the plaque is another tiny plaque giving details of the unveiling.

1. The building was known as “The Congos” (for “Congregational Church”).

2. Built in 1908-9, the hut was extended and the exterior stairs enclosed, as a memorial to the men who had served in the Great War.
