Every Name a Story
On Lee-On-Solent Memorial is the name of Sub-Lieutenant (A) Clifford Richardson serving with 825 Squadron H.M.S. Daedalus with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 09/03/1942.

Memorial Service
At Moor Lane Methodist Church Lancaster, on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. B. A. Barber conducted a memorial service at the same time as service was being conducted at sea over the spot where Sub-Lt. Clifford Richardson, R.N.VR. (Fleet Air Arm) lost his life. Sub-Lt. Richardson was reported “missing believed killed” in the early part of last week and at the week-end news of his death was confirmed. At the memorial service. Mr. James Green, Director of Education, read the lesson and also gave a short address in which he paid tribute to the deceased’s qualities as member of the teaching profession and also to his church work.
Sub-Lt. Richardson was native West Hartlepool, and after graduating B.Sc., came to Lancaster in 1938 as Science Master at Dallas Road School. He enlisted voluntarily in 1940 and received his training overseas and had only recently returned to this country. Whilst in Lancaster he took a keen Interest school sports and was a member of the Lancaster Cricket Club, playing in the second and third teams. He also turned out at centre-half for the Lancaster City Reserves and for the First Eleven on occasions. He was associated with the Moor Lane Methodist Church arid took a keen Interest in the work of the young people’s organisations, being president of the Young People’s Fellowship, member the Christian Endeavour Society and a local preacher. He resided in East Road with Miss Winder, a relative, who was also present at the service which was attended by representatives the various church organisations. Mrs. Corkill was the organist.

Richardson as a result of an accident at sea Sub.-Lieut. (A) Clifford Richardson (27) youngest son of Mrs A Richardson and the late Mr E Richardson of Wentworth House Blackhall Rocks.
