Andrew's military record shows that he enlisted in Alnwick and that his legatee was his brother Patrick. Andrew was born Bedlington Bank Top in 1897, the third child of Patrick and Margaret Ann Dane. His father, who came from Etal, was a miner and by the time of the 1901 census the family had moved to Benton Square at Longbenton in search of work, but in 1911, after moving around Bedlington and to Gateshead the family were back in Bedlington and living in Old Colliery Row, and Andrew was working as a pony driver down the pit. His father, Patrick, died two years after Andrew, and it would appear that Margaret then went to live with one of her children in Ashington.

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27), A17.43 and in the Battalion History and in Bedlington B15.11
