Robertson, G.C., 2nd Lieut., 1915

In La Chapelle d'Armentieres Communal Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Second Lieutenant George C. Robertson, Durham Light Infantry who died 21/07/1915.

W. Bro Revd David T. Youngson, PPAG Chaplain Northumberland, tells us that 2nd Lt. Robertson was a member the following Masonic lodges:
1167 Alnwick Lodge, Year of Warrant 1867, Masonic Hall Prudhoe Street, Alnwick Northumberland and 3110 Vane Lodge; Year of Warrant 1905; Masonic Hall, Bishop Auckland.

The son of William and Jane Robertson of Alnwick, Northumberland. A Bank Clerk residing at Alnwick, Northumberland he was Initiated into Alnwick Lodge No 1167, Province of Northumberland on the 12th May 1909; Passed 1st September 1909 and Raised on the 6th October 1909. He became a Joining Member of Vane Lodge, No 3110, Bishop Auckland, Province of Durham on the 11th December 1911 when his occupation was given as a Bank Manager. He was killed in action on the 21st July 1915 aged 37. He is buried in La Chapelle D’Armentieres Communal Cemetery, Nord, France, Grave Reference H.10.

He was killed by "being struck on the head by a part of a shell which burst in the trench which his company were occupying."

He is remembered in Alnwick on A11.01, A11.03, A11.09, A11.22, A11.27, A11.56 and A11.65

He is also named on the National Masonic Roll of Honour and in David Youngson’s Masonic Roll of Honour
