BENWELL

Henderson, J.T., Capt., 1916
In Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont is the Commonwealth War Grave of Captain John Thomas Henderson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 15/09/1916.

He was the youngest son of the late Mr. Robt. Henderson and Mrs. Agnes Henderson. His father for many years was Secretary to the Trust, and filled many offices in connection with the Church.

Capt. Henderson was a teacher by profession, and gained the B.Sc. Degree at Armstrong College.

He obtained his commission in September 1914, went to France in May 1915, promoted to the rank of Captain on August 19th, 1916, and was killed on September 15th of the same year while leading his men to the attack on High Wood on the Somme. He was 25 years of age.
