On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial is the name of 7007 Private Peter Gunn, serving with the 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards who died 29/10/1914.

Peter Gunn was born in Monkwearmouth, 12th June 1886, the 3rd son of Peter Gunn and his wife Alice, daughter of James Ridley. Peter was educated at Garden Street School joining the school on the 2nd November 1906.

He married at All Saints' Church at Clapton, 15th June 1910, Margaret of 86 Bayston Road, Stoke Newington N. She was the daughter of John Simons. They had two sons, Peter, born 18th June 1911, and John born 23rd April 1913.

Peter went to the Front with the first Expeditionary Force, and was reported missing after the heavy fighting at Ypres on the 29th October 1914. Later his widow was advised from Geneva that he was on the German list as dead, and he was assumed to have been killed on the above date.

Peter had a brother called John Angus Gunn who also died in the Great War.
