Ralph Crow Keedy
Northumberland Fusiliers
18th March 1917 age 18

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

Ralph was born in 1898 and baptised 12 December at Holy Trinity church, Gateshead. His parents were James and Mary (nee Lindsay Crow) who married at Gateshead in 1896.

Ralph was the only son of James (a joiner) and Mary although he did have 5 sisters Jane, Sarah, Jemima, Catherine and Margaret. His sister, Catherine died at the young age of 6 years in 1911. The family were living at 126 Woodbine Street as shown on 1901 census. By 1911 the household had moved to larger accommodation at 3 York Street.

He joined the army and served with the Northumberland Fusiliers. He had 2 service numbers, 4/2912 then he was renumbered as 200954.

An article in the Newcastle Journal 08/07/1916 reported “Pte. Keedy of 47 Cambourne Grove” had been wounded.

He was wounded in France on 16 August 1916 but later died in England of his injuries at Blean, Kent on Sunday 18 March 1917.

Recipient of the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
