In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Midshipman Keith Wheldon Whitton, serving on H.M.M.T.B. 349 with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 25/08/1943.

The son of Archibald Carnegie Whitton and Ellie Wheldon Whitton, of Whitley Bay.
