In Le Treport Military Cemetery, France is the Commonwealth War Grave of Second Lieutenant Robert Raynes, serving with the 14th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 17/10/1915.

The son of James S. and M. M. Raynes, of Tynemouth.

The Newcastle Journal 20/10/1915 reports:-
DEATH OF SECOND LIEUT. RAYNES.
Second-Lieut. Robert Raynes of the 14th D.L.I, whose death from wounds received in action was announced in the Journal yesterday, was well known the North Shields and Tynemouth district. He belonged to a respected Tynemouth family, and was actively associated with the Priors Park Cricket Club and the Tynemouth Amateur Swimming Club.

Robert Raynes is remembered at Barnard Castle School on B135.04 and B135.20, at Newcastle on NUT043 and NUT052, at North Shields on N34.45 and N34.77,  at Tynemouth on T36.01  and  T36.14 and in the D.L.I. Book of Remembrance page  287.
