In Bedlington (Netherton Lane) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of D/KX 81297 Stoker 1st Class John Thomas McCabe, serving on H.M.S. Wellington with the Royal Navy who died 25/12/1942

The son of William and Margaret McCabe and the stepson of Joseph James, of Bedlington.

The headstone reads:
In
loving memory of
Margaret
beloved wife of
Joseph James
died December 8th 1938 aged 47 years.

Also her son
J.T. McCabe
died December 25th 1942 aged 32 years.

HMS Wellington was used during the Second World War primarily on convoy escort duty in the North Atlantic. She is now moored on the Thames.

John Thomas McCabe is remembered at Bedlington on B15.02, B15.04 and B15.08 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
