On the Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Fourth Engineer Officer James Atkinson, serving on M.V. San Demetrio (London) with the Merchant Navy who died 17/03/1942.

The son of Andrew Cosser Mather Atkinson and Louisa Atkinson, of Primrose, Jarrow, Co. Durham and the husband of Olive Atkinson, of Hebburn, Co. Durham.

His brothers George and William Hunter both were killed in WW2.
