In Hartlepool North Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2nd Engineer Robert Coulson, serving on S.S. Luis with the Mercantile Marine, , who died 22/04/1918.
The son of Jessie Coulson and the late Robert Coulson and the husband of Margaret Florence Coulson (nee Burns), of 61, Thornhill Gardens, West Hartlepool. He was born at West Hartlepool.
The British Steamer the S.S. Luis, ship number 139829, was torpedoed by a German U Boat UC 71, commanded by Oberleutnant zur See Walter Warzecha, 3.5 miles SSE of St Catherine’s Point. It was on a voyage from St John to Portsmouth. There were 4 casualties.
