In Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece is the Commonwealth War Grave of 185084 Gunner Arthur Burrows Taylor serving with the 185th Heavy Battery Royal Garrison Artillery who died 21/11/1918.

Arthur Borrows Taylor was born in Bedlington Station in 1896, the eldest son of Frederick and Lilian. The family lived at North Row, Bedlington Station, first at number 39 and then at 121. In 1911 Arthur was working as a messenger boy at the pit.

The story given to Carole was that Arthur and his brother George enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment because their father had been born in Yorkshire and the family legend had it that both sons were in the same regiment and died in the same day. Unfortunately his niece has lost touch with the relative who has George and Arthur’s medals..

However the Pension Records give details for George and Arthur and state that Arthur was in the Royal Garrison Artillery and died of disease November 21st 1918.

Arthur Burrows Taylor and his brother George are remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in Bedlington on B15.06
