The son of Arthur and Lily Beeden, of Sandgate, Folkestone.

In 1939 Arthur and Lily Beeden are at the Coastguard Station at Boulmer where Arthur is one of the two coastguards.

Sgt. Beeden was killed when Bristol Beaufort I W6493 MW-G of 217 Squadron was lost on a mission to Brest. The Beaufort, along with two others from the same unit, were sent to attack the German battleship Admiral Hipper in Brest harbour – all three machines were shot down down by Bf-109s of JG77. All four members of the crew of W6493 were killed; of the eight crew from the other two Beauforts, five lost their lives, the remaining three becoming Prisoners of War.
