The son of Andrew Cosser Mather Atkinson and Louisa Atkinson, of Primrose, Jarrow.

His brothers George and James also were killed.

William Hunter Atkinson is remembered at Jarrow on J2.03, J2.07, J2.15 and J2.18  and in a RAF Book of Remembrance page 3.
