Durham Light Infantry
15th September 1916 age 26

He was the son of Robert and Anne Yeaman, of 36, St. Edmund’s Road, Gateshead.

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 20/9/1916 reports:
Military Funeral at Gateshead
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, at Gateshead East Cemetery, of Second-Lieutenant C.H. Yeaman, of the Durham Light Infantry, who died from appendicitis at Armstrong College Hospital at the age of 26 years.

He was a teacher at Dunston School and was educated at Gateshead Secondary School and Bede College, Durham.

The funeral was a military one, and was attended from the residence of his parents, in St. Edmund’s Road, by the band of the D.L.I. (T.), and a firing party of forty men under Captain Tillbrooke. It was followed by a large concourse of the general public. The coffin was conveyed on a gun carriage, and was covered with the Union Jack. The under-bearers were Second-Lieutenants Beck, Ritson, Walton, Hill, Renton and Hobson, brother officers of the deceased. Over the grave volleys were fired, and the Last Post was sounded.

Prior to the interment a service was held at St. Edmund’s Church, conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. J. Wilson, who also officiated at the grave side.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Snowball and Co., Gateshead.
