Son of Patrick & Annie Glynn
He did his best and well
in God’s garden now at rest
lies one of the best. R.I.P.

William Patrick was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in the 3rd Quarter of 1911, the son of William and Annie (nee Allan) of Newcastle upon Tyne. He served in the Merchant Navy on board S.S. Ocean Vintage (Middlesbrough).

According to the Electoral Registers for 1926-30 he lived at 62 Wellington Street, Newcastle in St. John’s Ward with his mother and siblings but with no mention of his father.

He did travel to New York in 1942 on board USS Betelgeuse, a US attack cargo ship.

I wanted to let you know that his father’s name was also William “Patrick” Glynn and not Robert. His father is my Great Grandfather and below is link to his grave at Findagrave.com. You can see his parents names at the bottom of the gravestone. Although, it says “Patrick and Annie” in the inscription he actually went by Paddy and yes, he was Irish.

S.S. Ocean Vintage was torpedoed and sunk by Japanese submarine I-27 while on a voyage carrying general cargo from Durban – Abadan to Bandar Shapur
