Sunderland Borough Council reported the death of Watts Daniel Warne (74 years) and his wife Emma Warne (64 years), both died 16th May 1943 at their home 32 Gladstone Street.

In Sunderland Mere Knolls Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In
loving memory of
Emily
beloved wife of
Watts Daniel Warne
who died May 3rd 1927, aged 58 years.
“Abide with me.”

Also the above Watts Daniel aged 74 years.

Also his wife Emma aged 64 years.
Both killed through enemy action
May 16th 1943.

Also Sig. N. Warne died of wounds received in action
June 3rd 1940 aged 18 years.

Watts’ son Norman also died in WW2.

Watts Daniel and Emma Warne are remembered at Monkwearmouth on M46.06,  in Seaburn on S142.02,  and are on list of Civilian War Dead 1939-45 B.C.
