In Wallsend (Holy Cross) cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of D/X984E.B Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class William Walker serving on H.M.S. Forth with the Royal Navy who died 12/09/1942.

The son of Thomas and Jenny Walker, of Willington Quay and the husband of Norah Irene Walker, of Willington Quay.

The headstone reads:

In
Loving memory of
William Walker, E.R.A., R.N.
died suddenly 12th Sept. 1942 aged 39 years.

Also his dearly loved wife
Norah Irene
died 25th May 1992 aged 88 years

At the going down of the sun, and in the
morning we shall remember.
