Undying memories
of our dear son Tommy
Died of wounds
received in action

The older son of Thomas and Isabella (nee Stacey) Jackson, Thomas (Tommy) was born on 10th September 1923 in Darlington, his younger brother Stanley was born in 1926 and his siter Hazel in 1921, when the family were living at 8 Allen Street.

By 1939 the family was living at 29 Prescott Street and Tommy was working as a riveter’s labourer.

It is not known when he joined the Royal Navy, but in 1943 he was aboard His Majesty’s Landing Craft (Mechanised) 104 a type of amphibious assault craft used extensively by the Royal Navy and Allied forces to transport vehicles, tanks, and troops from cargo ships directly onto the beaches.  On duty in the Mediterranean providing support to the Italian Campaign Able Seaman Jackson was wounded and invalided back to England.
