On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of Ordinary Seaman R/JX 215391 Seaman Warnes, serving on H.M.S. Tonbridge with the Royal Navy who died 22/08/1941.

The son of Alfred and Rachel Warnes, of Cambois, Northumberland.

The Blyth News 11/09/1941 reports with a photograph:-
PRESUMED KILLED Notification has been received by Mr and Mrs A. Warnes, of Ridley Terrace Cambois that their eldest son. Seaman Warnes, whose Christian name corresponds with his rank in the Navy, is missing and must be presumed to have lost his life at sea. Aged 24, Seaman Warnes was employed by Blyth Harbour Commission and joined the Navy a year ago. He was well-known In Blyth.
