On Liverpool Naval Memorial is the name of 1014385 Able Seaman Ralph Thomas Wilkinson, serving on H.M. Rescue Tug Eminent with the Naval Auxiliary Personnel (Merchant Navy) who died 01/01/1946.
The son of Ralph Thomas Wilkinson, O.B.E. and Margaret Wilkinson and the husband of Helen Wilkinson.
News Post Leader, “50 years ago” Thursday 11/01/1996, reports:-
Mrs. N. Wilkinson, of Nixon Terrace, Blyth, has been officially informed that her husband (AB) Ralph Thomas Wilkinson died on New Year’s Day – his 44th birthday – as a result of an accident on board HMS Howe and was buried at sea with full naval honours in the presence of the admiral, captain and crew. Wilkinson had been serving in Ceylon, Singapore and other places in the Far East with HM Tugs and was travelling home on HMS Howe to be demobilised when the fatal accident happened.
Ralph Thomas Wilkinson is remembered at Blyth on B142.23 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
