On the Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/KX 97420 Stoker 1st Class Roderick McGregor Raw, serving on H.M.S. Hood with the Royal Navy who died 24/05/1941.

The son of Esther Tinlin Raw, of Hartlepool, Co. Durham.

Roderick [Roy] McGregor Raw was born on the 1st July 1921, the son of Esther Raw.

She later married and Roy had two half siblings, Eliza and Henry McEvoy. They resided at 31 Rokeby Street, Central Estate, Hartlepool.

He was an old boy of the Galley School and was a window cleaner. He joined the Navy in July 1939.

Roderick McGregor Raw is remembered at Hartlepool on H115.16, at West Hartlepool on W111.055,  in the 1939-1945 Military and Civilian names beginning with R  and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
