In Annan Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Radio Officer Ralph Grierson Bell serving on S.S. Magdapur (Liverpool) with the Merchant Navy who died 10/09/1939.
The son of Ralph and Elizabeth Burnett Bell and the husband of Elizabeth Cooper Bell, of Branton, Northumberland.
The S.S. Magdapur was a cargo ship of 8641 tons which was sunk by a mine in daylight off the coast at Aldeburgh. Six of her 81 crew were killed. The rest were rescued by the Aldeburgh Lifeboat.
