In Sunderland (Mere Knolls) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave, with a private headstone of Master Robert Strutt serving on S.S. Lea Grange with the Merchant Navy who died 12/02/1947.

He was the son of William Robert and Dorothy Ann Strutt, of Sunderland and the husband of Florence May Strutt, of Roker, Sunderland.

The family headstone reads:

In sweetest remembrance
of
Dorothy Ann,
the dear devoted wife of
William R. Strutt
died March 9th 1928,
aged 68 years.

“Faithful unto death”.

died Sept. 1st 1937,
aged 78 years.

“Rest at eventide”.

died Feb. 12th 1947,
aged 54 years.

died Oct.7th 1921, aged 33 years

He was awarded the  OBE in the Birthday Honours List 1942.

Robert Strutt is remembered at Sunderland on  S140.159, and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
