On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/779 Able Seaman Robert Evans, serving on H.M.S. Hampshire  with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 05/06/1916.

He was the son of Martha Evans, of Balkwell Cottages, Chirton, North Shields, and the late Thomas Evans.  He was a native of Ashington, Northumberland.

Morpeth Herald 07/07/1916 carries a brief obituary:
A.B. Robert Evans, of Ashington, lost with H.M.S. Hampshire.
