In Newcastle upon Tyne (West Road) Crematorium is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant-Commander Percy Mark Cox, M.B.E., serving on H.M.S. Calliope with the Royal Navy, who died 26/02/1945.

The son of Joseph and Caroline Cox and the husband of Lylie Amy Cox, of Modbury, Devon.

The Western Morning News 01/01/1945 reports:-
Lieut. Percy Mark Cox. R.N. of Douce Grove, Modbury, who receives the M.B.E. joined the Navy as a boy from Greenwich. Most of his Service career was spent in flagships, and during the greater part of the last war he served in Africa. He retired in 1939 but on the outbreak of war was recalled. He is now serving at shore base station in the North of England

The funeral of Lieut.-Com. Percy mark Cox, M.B.E., R.N., of Douce Grove, Modbury. and the Hallsands Hotel, Kingsbridge, took place at Newcastle Crematorium, the service being conducted by the vicar of Monkseaton, in whose parish he was residing at the time of his death.

The church was filled with friends and naval personnel. Chief mourners were the widow; Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Stone, son-in-law and daughter; Mr. J. Cox brother; Lieut.-Com. and Mrs. R. J. Cox, brother and sister-in-law; and Mr. A. Cox, brother. Miss Pamela Cox. daughter, was unable to attend owing to ill-health.

An impressive naval ceremony subsequently took place, when the ashes were scattered on the sea.
