On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/JX 212485 Ordinary Seaman Norman Moat, serving on H.M.S. Hood with the Royal Navy who died 24/05/1941.

The son of Thomas Punton Moat and Dorothy Moat, of Newcastle upon Tyne.

In Newcastle upon Tyne (West Road) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
my dear husband
Thomas Moat
died 19 Nov. 1948 aged 56

Also son Norman
lost on H.M.S. Hood
May 24 1941 aged 19

And dear daughter Beatrice
died 17 April 1967 aged 41

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle 30/05/1941 reports with a photograph:-
Ordinary Seaman Norman Moat (20). lived with his parents at 30, Thorndike Road. Scotswood. He volunteered for service on the outbreak of war.
