In Wallsend (Holy Cross) cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Cook Norman Henderson, serving on H.M.S. Manchester City with the Naval Auxiliary Personnel (Merchant Navy) who died 27/10/1943.

He was the son of Mrs. E. J. Henderson, of Wallsend.

The family plot has a kerb surround which reads:

To my dear husband Norman Henderson
Died 27th Oct. 1943 aged 34 years.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle 29/10/1943 reports:-
HENDERSON. Wallsend, 92, Park Rd. (father’s residence). 27th. aged 34. Norman, beloved husband of Georgina. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery Sat. Funeral private.
