On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Apprentice Matthew Lennox, serving on S.S. Dunrobin (Newcastle) with the Mercantile Marine who died 24/11/1917.

The son of Matthew and Margery Lennox (nee White), of 27, Lavender Gardens, West Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne.

In Newcastle upon Tyne (St. Andrew’s and Jesmond) Cemetery is a headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Margery,
the dearly beloved wife of
Matthew Lennox
who died 22nd July 1932,
aged 57 years.

Also Matthew Lennox
(Merchantile (sic) Marine)
youngest son of the above
drowned as result of enemy
attack by submarine
or killed by mine, Nov. 24th 1917
aged 17 years.

Also the above
Matthew Lennox
who died July 7th 1935
aged 61 years.

Matthew Lennox is remembered at Jesmond on J1.06, J1.15, J1.21 and J1.22 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
