On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of C/JX 144799 Able Seaman Leslie Pearson, serving on H.M.S. Firedrake with the Royal Navy who died 17/12/1942.

The adopted son of Thomas C. Pearson, of Annfield Plain, Co. Durham.

Leslie Pearson 1919-1942

The son of Sarah Pearson and grandson of Thomas Cowan Pearson and his wife Isabella of 8 Beverley Terrace, Catchgate, Annfield Plain.

He died 17th December 1942 when the ship, HMS Firedrake, was torpedoed by a German submarine and sunk. It was part of the Atlantic Convoy. This was the third time that he had been on a ship that was attacked in this way.

The name of his uncle Samuel Pearson appears below his on the War Memorial at Annfield Plain.
