On the Runnymede Memorial is the name of 570036 Aircraftman 1st Class Keith Mensforth Walker, serving with the 73 Squadron Royal Air Force who died 17/06/1940.

The son of Robert M. and L. B. Walker, of South Shields, Co. Durham.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

AC1 Walker was killed aboard the troopship R.M.S. Lancastria, which was sunk with huge loss of life when it was bombed off St. Nazaire. The ship was evacuating Allied personnel from France when it was tracked by the Luftwaffe, and it sank with the death toll estimated to be between 3,000 and 5,800.

Keith Mensforth Walker is remembered at Westoe in W101.08 page 93 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
