This photo appeared in the Daily Mirror on Monday 18/12/1939.

Jean was murdered by her fiancé Gordon Richard Chilcott and the story appeared in many newspapers. Her fiancé was going to be hanged but his sentence was later changed to a prison sentence.

Whitley Tragedy
The sympathy of local residents went out wholeheartedly last week to the parents of Miss Jean Watson Moore, who met her death under such tragic circumstances last Friday. The tragedy came as a shock to all friends of the parents and Miss Moore. Only about two hours before she was enjoying herself with friends at a local dance. The funeral took place at Whitley Cemetery on Monday, and there were many beautiful floral tributes.

Place of death: North Shields (I think this is incorrect as newspaper articles indicate she was murdered close to the Broadway area which I think might be classed as either Whitley Bay or Cullercoats.) Removed from: 28 Lish Avenue, Whitley Bay – this is likely her home address. Date of death given as 14 December 1939. However, at the time it was not known for definite if her fiancé had murdered her on the 14th or 15th.
