In Newbiggin (St. Bartholomew) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of LT/JX 185361 Seaman John Thomas Armstrong, serving on H.M.M.L. 1060 with the Royal Naval Patrol Service, who died 06/08/1944.

The son of Robert T. Armstrong and Ida May Armstrong, of Newbiggin by the Sea and the husband of Anne Jane Armstrong, of Newbiggin by the Sea.

The family headstone reads:

dearly beloved husband of
Ann Jane Armstrong
accidentally killed August
6th 1944 aged 27 years.

Also of Sheila
beloved daughter of the above
died April 28th 1962
aged 23 years

Also the above
Anne Jane
died June 20th 2003 aged 88 years.
